There is an ancient Chinese proverb that reads, “A crisis is an opportunity riding a dangerous wind.” I don’t think that statement could be any truer than in THIS moment. There is a dire leadership crisis in our nation right now. Leaders across all sectors, business, government, and community activism have abandoned principles and reason. They are instead choosing to lead with fear, hate, and self-interest to the detriment of our society and our future. This isn’t necessarily new- leadership deficits have always existed in pockets- but for the first time that I can remember in my lifetime, it truly feels all encompassing and it started with the tone at the very top of our country’s leadership hierarchy.
I’ve spent the last ten months feeling defeated and silenced. Feeling hopeless and frankly paralyzed with fear of consequences and targeted attacks for speaking my mind publicly. But real leaders know that we cannot and must not hide, especially during the darkest of times. We have a responsibility to hold true to our core values and to find the courage to continue to forge a path forward towards the light, even if we can’t yet see it in front of us.
I am finally ready to use my platform again and to resume moving towards that light. I am starting with a reset trip to Bali to clear my mind and renew my spirit. I will be back soon and when I return, I am bringing my voice, my values, and my POWER with me.
